We all experience stress at some point during our day but there are a number of different things that you can do to reduce stress.

The foods that you eat can play a huge part in helping to reduce stress and that’s why I’ve put together a list of 5 foods that you should eat to help reduce stress in your everyday life.

So next time you feel that life is getting on top of you, eat these 5 foods to reduce stress immediately or just make sure that they are a regular staple in your healthy eating diet.

Turkey is a great stress buster as it contains L-tryptophan which is an amino acid. The amino acid helps release serotonin which is your feel good hormone, making you feel chilled and relaxed. Serotonin is also released when you work out; it lifts your mood and makes you feel good.

Tuna

Tuna is high in stress-fighting vitamins B6 and B12. It’s also a great source of protein for you and is very low in fat. Always choose albacore tuna as it’s the best source of tuna that you can buy. It’s great for a lunch time snack but don’t add lots of mayo to it just add a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and ground pepper for some added flavor.

Salmon

Salmon is high in omega 3 fatty acids, which not only helps reduce stress and elevates your mood but it also helps protect you against heart disease. The omegas 3s stop cortisol and adrenaline which are your stress hormones from kicking in. They also help with your brain function, which means when life is crazy you will be able to cope so much better.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a good source of vitamin B6; they help support a wide range of activities in your nervous system, which then helps you to relax. They are also packed full of beta-carotene and fiber which helps you process carbs slowly, giving you more energy to get through the day.

Avocados

Avocados have more potassium than bananas which help lower your blood pressure. They also contain vitamin E and because they are great to reduce stress they help your body absorb other vital nutrients. Next time you feel on the edge take a moment and eat a banana.
