How to Stay Healthy During Your Summer Holiday

You’ve been waiting for almost a year for the summer holidays to arrive and we are just about there.

But how do you make sure you stay healthy whilst still enjoying them?

One of the big complaints for people coming back from their holiday is all the body fat they’ve gained but that doesn’t have to be you, oh no; I’ve got some top tips to keep you in shape, even when you’re on holiday!

Follow these 5 tips to make sure that you stay healthy and fit on holiday.

1. Avoid Stress

Avoiding stress or at least limiting your stress levels is an important one. If your flight is delayed, then it’s delayed. Take this opportunity to do a little bit of last minute shopping and treat yourself. Don’t forget to pack your iPod so you can listen to some calming tunes. When you arrive at your holiday destination take 10 minutes each day to meditate and calm your mind.

2. Sleep

One of the best things you can do for your body is to get enough sleep. When you’re at home life can get so hectic that sleep sometimes takes a backseat. So on your holiday make it a priority to get at least 8 hours of quality sleep. Make this time a time to relax and recharge your batteries. If you need to take a couple of 15 minute naps during the day, that can be in your bedroom, beach or by the pool. Take the opportunity to rest because when you get home its back to work and back to life.

3. Move

Just because you are on your summer holiday it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t exercise. Go for a run first thing in the morning before you start your day. Swim lengths at the hotel pool and go for a long swim in the sea. Take a tour of the area that you are staying in and do it on foot; not only is this a great way to get some exercise in but you’ll also get to know the area that you are staying in.

4. Eating

When you are on holiday don’t fall into the trap of eating everything in sight. Allow yourself some treats but don’t make every day one big treat. If you follow the above tip then treating yourself won’t become too much of a problem. Try to eat lots of fresh fish, vegetables and salads and stay away from too much red meat and heavy sauces. After all you want to come home looking healthy and fit.

5. Water

Staying well hydrated is important whether you are on holiday or not but slightly more when on holiday and especially if you are in a hot country. Increase how much water you drink each day by buying mineral water from the local shop. Stay away from tap water but I’m sure you know that one. Keeping well hydrated will make sure that you don’t over eat and suffer from headaches due to dehydration. When you order an alcoholic drink, always ensure you order a bottle of water to go with it.
