One Kirkcaldy woman is putting Yoda’s words of wisdom into practice by helping local women boost their confidence, improve their overall fitness and shed unwanted pounds.

Karen Davidson (46) holds weekly bootcamps in the town’s Ravenscraig and has been doing so for the past 18 months.

But while she said helping women to lose weight is one result of the morning workout sessions, the main difference she sees is the boost to their self-esteem and confidence.

Karen is fully qualified to run the bootcamps, having 20 years experience in the fitness industry. She also teaches evening classes, does personal training and spent five years as a slimming consultant.

She told The Press: “I have seen women change their lives completely through taking part in the bootcamps. The transformation is amazing.

‘‘They have come along and been quite nervous, but have ended up really enjoying it. I have seen women who are always on the weight-loss rollercoaster, going from one diet to another and not getting the results they want. The hot body bootcamp is different.

‘’Not only do they do three 45-minute morning exercise workouts a week, I also give them a healthy diet plan, recipes to follow and offer them support 27/7.

Effort

‘’One woman lost 24.5 lbs and 25 inches in just four weeks. It does work, but people have to be prepared to put the effort in.

‘’What I tell them is they either do it or they don’t do it, there is no try.”

Probably the hardest part about taking part is the early morning rise – the bootcamps, which take place over four-weeks, start at 6.15 a.m and run until 7.00 a.m.

“Many women find it hard to fit in evening gym classes if they have children to look after,’’ said Karen.

‘‘They are often too tired at night to be bothered exercising. By doing the morning bootcamps, they have done their exercise first thing so they have the rest of the day to themselves.”

Karen stresses her bootcamp is not about screaming at people to work harder or getting members to run for miles, it is more about toning, tightening and fat burning, making women feel “fit, happy and hot”.

While most of the members are women, men are also welcome.

“I would say to anyone thinking of trying the bootcamps to just do it. As well as toning and getting fitter, it’s also a great way to make friends.”
