You might be trying to follow a healthy diet every day but are you making sure that all the foods you eat are natural and contain plenty of vitamins and minerals?

1. Beetroot

Beetroot is packed full of iron and vitamin C, and vitamin C helps your body to absorb iron. The leaves are also full of magnesium and B6, which are awesome power nutrients for a healthy body. Beetroot also helps eliminate toxins from your body. You can eat beetroot raw, buy the natural juice, and make your own juice or create a summer soup. Doesn’t matter how you eat it just eat it.

2. Wild Salmon

Wild salmon is an amazing source of protein. It contains so many vitamins and minerals, including essential amino acids, vitamins A, B, D and E; it also contains lots of calcium, zinc and iron. It’s one of the best power foods you can eat. As the weather is getting warmer why not cook it on the BBQ and have a salad on the side.

3. Watercress

Watercress is great in a sandwich or on a salad; you can toss it in olive oil or a small amount of vinegar to help improve digestion. It contains vitamins B, C and E and also calcium. Always choose organic watercress and buy it and eat it when it’s as fresh as possible, otherwise it loses some of it nutrients. Watercress soup is always a great way to enjoy it.

4. Lentils

Lentils are full of fibre which makes them an excellent source to lower cholesterol. They provide slow burning energy after you have eaten them, unlike other foods that give you a sudden energy rush followed by a crash. They are also full of iron, protein and vitamin B. Lentils are perfect to use in curries, casseroles, on salads and try Puy lentils as a healthy alternative to meat.

5. Grapefruit

Grapefruits are full of vitamin C; in just one half you will find 100mg. They contain salicylic acid, making them great if you suffer from any joint pain. They help with digestion so not only can you enjoy half for breakfast but have the other half after your dinner. As grapefruits also contain Limonoids they can help prevent tumours that are associated with cancer. You can buy grapefruits in both red and white but the white variety tend to be slightly sweeter.

With all the recipes online and videos of how to cook dishes, no one has the excuse anymore that they can’t cook so don’t let this hold you back from eating healthy meals every day.

Always buy the freshest produce possible and if you can for some of them at least try to buy organic.
