Need a Sweet Fix? Try a Smoothie

It’s understandable you occasionally want a sweet fix, but you can get this without resorting to nutritionally insufficient, fat & sugar loaded cakes and chocolate!

Smoothies in moderation are an ideal snack packed with nutritional value, low in fat, high in fibre and free from added sugar.

Try this smoothie recipe next time you’re raking through the cupboards for something that should be there in the first place!

Banana and Cocoa Smoothie

This Cacao and Banana Smoothie can be enjoyed as a healthy snack all to yourself or a perfect treat for the whole family.

Equipment – Jug or hand blender
Time – 5 minutes
Serves 1

Ingredients –

• 1 medium organic banana
• 250ml Rice or Almond milk
• 1 tsp. Agava necta
• 1 tsp. Cocao powder

Instructions –

• Peel and break banana into jug or mixing bowl
• Pour over (almond/rice) milk
• Add agava necta and cocao powder
• Blend for around 3 to 4 seconds
• Serve in a large glass

Enjoying a Low Fat Smoothie

Bananas are a great source of vitamins and minerals including fibre, vitamin C, B complex, potassium, magnesium and manganese.

Cocao is rich in magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, A, B1, B2, B3, C, E, pantothenic acid and manganese. Cocao also helps raise your levels of Phenylethylamine and Serotonine which both help boost your mood and can help prevent feelings of depression.

Once you’ve had one of these you will never want to eat a chocolate bar again. This smoothie tastes like heaven, it’s packed with nutrients and it fills you up; what more could you ask for from a snack.
